Keep Your Place With Style

Today I want to share a fun but quick little project.  I am always in need of bookmarks, it seems, so what better opportunity to make a little something crafty!  Here's my simple but useful project using Flavours Gourmet cardstock!
What you'll need:Flavours Gourmet cardstock in Chili Arbol
Two designs of coordinating patterned paper
a paper trimmer
adhesive
a 1/2" punch and a hole punch
twill tape ribbon
matching red DMC floss
sewing machine (optional)
Steps:
First, cut out your cardstock and paper to these sizes:
  • cardstock - 6" x 2"
  • accent patterned paper - 5" x 2"
  • focal patterned paper - 4" x 2
 * I have been using my clear acrylic ruler and rotary cutter lately and I **LOVE** it.  I am a quilter, so I have lots of these tools but until recently, I never used them on paper.  Now, it's my preference because I feel like I have such better control on the cuts.  I just keep the blade dedicated to paper and use a different one for fabric.
Layer these pieces, leaving the lower layers showing anyway that you'd like to.  Adhere them down and then add some machine stitching if you'd like to.  Don't be afraid to sew on your papercrafting projects; you may need to change out your needle more often, but it's a lot of fun.  I used both a straight stitch and a zig zag.
Smooth out the look of the bookmark by rounding the corners.
Add a little detail on the top end of your bookmark.  Create a 1/2" circle cutout from your accent cardstock and adhere it to your bookmark.  Then punch a hole in the center of the circle.
Feed the twill tape ribbon through the hole and secure it with a knotted strand of DMC floss.  You could just tie your twill in a knot, but I thought it was one last opportunity to give a little extra pop of color.
Now, find some quiet time and a good book.... Enjoy!
