In honor of Earth Day, all month we are showing ways to use the CutCardStock "Earth Friendly" products, as well as ways we get crafty in repurposing items around the house.  We've seen keepsake and coupon albums made from envelopes, jewelry made from cardstock scraps and gift card holders made from regular envelopes.  Today I wanted to share another "upcycle" project with you.


I was inspired by seeing this darling project on Facebook, and couldn't wait to try it myself.  Considering we are a military family, my husband and I have moved many times in throughout our marriage, so there are lots of places we've called home!

I started with a wood frame I picked up at the local thrift shop for 50 cents, and grabbed my trusty can of spray paint.

While the paint was drying, I was able to get my hands on an old 2002 road atlas and grabbed my heart shaped thin die.  I rough cut the six locations I wanted to highlight on my finished art, then kept the die in place with a little washi tape as I ran it through the Big Shot.


For my background, I could help but use Brown Bag kraft... it's my go-to for many projects.  I spaced out my heart locations and secured them down while giving a little lift using the Tombow foam tabs.


The project cost me less than a buck, so I'm not worried that there's no glass over the map hearts.  I like to change out the art on my desk every so often, so this will be my focus piece for a little while.  Something like this would make a fantastic anniversary gift for someone special, and that's when I would splurge on a deep frame so that it can be a keepsake!
