Summer Kickoff Series - Paper Flowers

I hope you've enjoyed our Summer Kickoff Series and have been inspired to try some new techniques and even give origami paper a try!  For the last project of the series, I wanted to share the paper flowers I created.  I came across this tutorial, and thought that origami paper would be perfect!

So I didn't have any florist's wire around, but I managed to find a couple of wire hangers lost in the back of the coat closet.  I snipped them down to a straight stem using some heavy duty wire cutters.

From the Robin Joy's collection of origami paper, I cut my assorted sizes of petals.  Like the tutorial suggested, I cut four to five of each size and tried to keep the shapes a little random so they look more natural.  I rolled the edges of each petal a bit using the wire hanger, it worked like a charm!

Using my hot glue gun, and perhaps leaving a few of my finger prints behind, I glued each leaf on the the rolled center of the flower.  I just kept adding leaves from small to larger size, shaping them as I went along.

To finish the stem, I didn't have florist's tape, but I had green washi tape on hand so I figured that would do the trick!

I paired up my flowers with some peonies from my garden and sweet talked my hubby into holding the bouquet for my picture.  I can really see these origami flowers mixed in with real flowers, or even an entire arrangement of paper flowers!
