Northern Lights Card

After the three snowstorms that have hit the East Coast in the last couple of weeks, I've been in quite a wintry mood lately!  Beautiful, shimmery Stardream Metallic Cardstocks are perfect for winter crafts, and I was inspired by my own frosty backyard to create this easy northern lights holiday card.

Start by trimming a piece of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock to 4 3/8" by 6 3/8".  Then stamp a pine tree image about a third of the way up from the bottom and on the left side of the panel with Versafine Onyx Black ink.  Add clear embossing powder and melt it with your heat tool.

Cut three different snowdrift shapes from some leftover cardstock or masking paper (here I used wide Post-It tape) by hand.  Place the first one on the very bottom of your panel and ink the area just above the mask with light blue ink.  Repeat this process with a second mask, moving a little further up from the bottom.

Place the third mask on your panel so that part of the drift just touches the bottom of the stamped pine tree.  Ink above this mask with more vibrant colors, including greens, blues, and purples using a heavier hand at the bottom and a gradually lighter touch as you near the top of the panel.

Trim a piece of Stardream Metallic Punch Cardstock to 4.5" by 6.5" to form a mat layer for your inked panel.  Then, die-cut a sentiment and its shadow from Lagoon and Crystal Stardream Metallic Cardstock, respectively ("Winter Wishes" would be a great general sentiment to use on this card too!).

Adhere the sentiment to its shadow layer with liquid glue and then position it on the inked panel where desired.  Once the ink on your panel has dried fully, stamp the second half of the sentiment underneath in Versamark ink, add white embossing powder, and melt with your heat tool.

Mount the inked panel onto the Punch mat layer with tape runner and tie some thin ribbon around the bottom to embellish.

Adhere the whole panel to a 5" by 7" side-folding card base made out of 110# Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock using foam squares.  Add the die-cut sentiment on top with liquid glue.

I hope you enjoyed this fun wintry card inspired by the northern lights and thanks so much for stopping by today.  You can visit the CutCardStock store to purchase any of the supplies showcased today and remember that Stardream Metallic Cardstocks are on sale this month!
